Alderman Thomas and Former Chicago Bear Jason Davis Hold Free Football Camp for Community Youth
On Saturday, June 11,2011, 17th Ward Alderman Latasha R. Thomas teamed up with former Chicago Bear Fullback Jason Davis to give youth from the Englewood and Auburn Gresham communities a taste of the life that professional football players live at the 2nd Annual Jason Davis Football Camp. Nearly 200 kids, aged 8 to 15, participated in drills and activities aimed at teaching them about focus, dedication, physical fitness, and teamwork. The cool weather with a light breeze was perfect for the camp - held from 9am to 2pm - at Ogden Park, located at 6500 S.
Racine. Volunteers from the NFL, NCAA and several community organizations helped facilitate the event, which included discussions and lunches prepared for the camps attendees.
Jason Davis Barred But Not Broken Foundation co-sponsored the event. The 27 year-old Davis is a native of St. Louis, Missouri and played college football at the University of Illinois, which is also the alma mater of Alderman Thomas. Davis refers to Chicago as his second home, acknowledging that it is the birthplace of his wife, Jessica.
Thomas, who also serves as the Chairperson of the Chicago City Council Committee on Education, lauded the professional footballer Davis for his continued commitment to providing this unique and valuable experience for the areas young people. Jason Davis has demonstrated the kind of commitment to public service and youth advocacy that our communities so desperately need, declared Alderman Thomas. I want to thank Jason, his foundation, and everyone who volunteered or contributed to the fantasy camp. It is something these young people should cherish for years.

Davis.
