Farrakhan Defends Gadhafi

On Thursday afternoon, Nation of Islam (NOI) leader Minister Louis Farrakhan held a news conference at Mosque Maryam, 7351 South Stony Island Avenue. The nearly two hour event was streamed live via webcast on the NOIs official website; its purpose was to address issues in the Middle East and the Libya Policy of the Obama administration. At the beginning, Farrakhan said he rarely calls press conferences, but felt compelled to do so.
Farrakhan called the embattled Libyan leader, Muammar Gadhafi his brother and does not understand why military action was taken against him. Forty years ago, Gaddafi loaned the Nation of Islam $3 million to renovate a former Greek Orthodox church that is now Mosque Maryam.
I have been all over the world because of that man, Farrakhan said as he explained his extensive world travel because of his relationship with Gadhafi.
Farrakhan says he has not spoken to Gadhafi since 2005.
The NOI leader also said he convened the press conference to warn Americans of a forthcoming natural disaster. After observing the tragic images from Japans recent earthquake and tsunami, Farrakhan said he was inspired to inform Americans of a calamity that will castigate the country for its arrogance.
A major earthquake is on the way to you and me and us, Farrakhan said. Death and destruction is at the door of all of us and we are worse prepared than the Japanese.
