The Flash Flood Watch continues for
* Portions of central Virginia, east central Virginia, eastern
Virginia, north central Virginia, south central Virginia, and
southeast Virginia, including the following areas, in central
Virginia, Eastern Chesterfield (Including Col. Heights),
Eastern Hanover, Eastern Henrico, Western Chesterfield,
Western Hanover, and Western Henrico (Including the City of
Richmond). In east central Virginia, Charles City, Eastern
Essex, Eastern King William, Eastern King and Queen, New Kent,
Richmond, Western Essex, Western King William, Western King
and Queen, and Westmoreland. In eastern Virginia, Gloucester,
Lancaster, Mathews, Middlesex, and Northumberland. In north
central Virginia, Caroline. In south central Virginia,
Dinwiddie and Prince George. In southeast Virginia,
Chesapeake, Greensville, Hampton/Poquoson, Isle of Wight,
James City, Newport News, Norfolk/Portsmouth, Southampton,
Suffolk, Surry, Sussex, Virginia Beach, and York.
* Until 8 PM EDT this evening
* Recent rainfall has saturated the soil across portions of
central and southeast Virginia. The heaviest rainfall since
Monday has fallen across southeast Virginia and areas around the
Chesapeake Bay. Occasional showers will continue into Wednesday
evening across portions of Central Virginia to the Bay. The
greatest threat for additional flooding will be east of
Interstate 95 across the Tidewater and Peninsulas to the Bay.
* Flash flooding can develop quickly in urban and low-lying
areas prone to flooding.

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for
* Portions of east central Virginia, eastern Virginia, north
central Virginia, and southeast Virginia, including the
following areas, in east central Virginia, Eastern Essex,
Eastern King William, Eastern King and Queen, New Kent,
Richmond, Western Essex, Western King William, Western King
and Queen, and Westmoreland. In eastern Virginia, Gloucester,
Lancaster, Mathews, Middlesex, and Northumberland. In north
central Virginia, Caroline. In southeast Virginia,
Hampton/Poquoson, James City, Newport News, and York.
* Until 5 AM EDT Monday.
* Scattered showers and thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are
expected overnight across much of central and eastern Virginia.
With the saturated ground from the heavy rainfall this weekend,
any additional heavy rainfall could produce flash flooding. A
few spots under the heaviest of rainfall could see a couple of
inches rain in a short period of time.
* Excessive rainfall in a short period of time could lead to
flash flooding. Urban areas, locations along small streams and
creeks, and poor drainage areas are most vulnerable to flash
flooding.
