...HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM EDT FRIDAY...
The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a High Wind
Warning, which is in effect until 4 AM EDT Friday. The Wind
Advisory is no longer in effect.
* AREAS AFFECTED: Much of central and southern Virginia and
portions of interior northeast North Carolina.
* HAZARDS: Strong or damaging wind gusts.
* WINDS: Winds have shifted to the northwest over portions of
south central Virginia, and this will overspread areas of
central and eastern Virginia, and interior northeast North
Carolina later this evening into early Friday morning. Sustained
winds will average 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph
possible.
* TIMING: Late this evening into early Friday morning. Winds will
gradually diminish after 4 am.
* IMPACTS: Strong wind combined with heavy rain will cause downed
trees and scattered power outages.

...HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM EST SATURDAY...
* TIMING...Through tonight.
* WINDS...Northwest 25 to 40 mph with gusts 55 to 65 mph in the
valleys and 60 to 75 mph along the ridge tops. The strongest
winds in the valleys are expected through this evening. Strong
winds will continue through tonight along the ridge tops.
* IMPACTS...Widespread power outages are occurring. Travel is
dangerous, especially for high profile vehicles, and motorists
need to be aware of rapidly changing road conditions due to the
potential of downed trees and power lines. Pedestrians will face
very hazardous conditions, and need to be aware of wind-borne
projectiles. People should avoid being outside in forested areas
and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower
levels of your homes during the windstorm, and avoid windows. If
you use a portable generator, follow manufacturer`s instructions
and do not use inside homes, garages, or apartments.
