...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1130 PM EDT
THURSDAY FOR THE CITY OF SALEM...
At 108 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain continuing across
the warned area. Up to 2 inches of rain have already fallen. Flash
flooding has been reported with numerous roads closed in Salem.
Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the
warned area.
The Roanoke River at Salem Pump Station has risen above flood stage
and continues to rise and stages along Mason Creek north of Salem
are also rising rapidly at this time. The latest reading on the
Mason Creek IFLOWS gauge north of the City was 6.0 feet. Flood Stage
is 7 feet on this gauge and it is expected to exceed this level
within an hour or two.
