MORNING FOR THE GUADALUPE MOUNTAINS AND PORTIONS OF THE LOW
ROLLING PLAINS AND NORTHERN PERMIAN BASIN OF WEST TEXAS...
.Light freezing rain, and at times sleet, will persist along and
south of Interstate 10 this morning. Light ice accumulations on
roadways have already been reported in some of these areas, and
additional light ice accumulations will be possible through the
morning, which will create hazardous driving conditions.
Locations just east of the higher terrain are particularly
susceptible to icy deposits on roadways, in particular, the
Interstate 10 and Interstate 20 split in western Reeves County.
The very cold temperatures will combine with breezy conditions
and result in wind chill values in the single digits in many
locations. However, the Guadalupe Mountains, northern Permian
Basin, and Western Low Rolling Plains will see values drop to
5 to 15 degrees below zero through much of New Years morning.

* WHAT...Very cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little
as 30 minutes to exposed skin. Expect wind chills as low as 5
below zero to 10 below zero.
* WHERE...In New Mexico, Northern Lea County. In Texas, Gaines,
Dawson, Borden and Scurry Counties.
* WHEN...Until 9 AM CST /8 AM MST/ this morning.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A Wind Chill Advisory means that cold air
and the wind will combine to create low wind chills. Frost bite
and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken. Make
sure you wear a hat and gloves.
