.Heavy rain, and a few thunderstorms, is expected across the
region this afternoon and evening. The heavy rain, along with
saturated soils, will present conditions favorable to flash
flooding.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for
* Portions of Southwest North Carolina, East Tennessee, and
Southwest Virginia, including the following areas, in
Southwest North Carolina, Cherokee and Clay. In East
Tennessee, Anderson, Bledsoe, Blount Smoky Mountains, Bradley,
Campbell, Claiborne, Cocke Smoky Mountains, East Polk,
Grainger, Hamblen, Hamilton, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson,
Johnson, Knox, Loudon, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Morgan, NW
Blount, North Sevier, Northwest Carter, Northwest Cocke,
Northwest Greene, Northwest Monroe, Rhea, Roane, Scott TN,
Sequatchie, Sevier Smoky Mountains, Southeast Carter,
Southeast Greene, Southeast Monroe, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union,
Washington TN, and West Polk. In Southwest Virginia, Lee,
Russell, Scott, Washington, and Wise.
* Until 8 PM EDT /7 PM CDT/ this evening
* Periods of showers, and possibly thunderstorms, with moderate to
locally heavy rainfall will continue across the area through
this evening. Runoff from this heavy rainfall may lead to flash
flooding. Ponding of low lying areas, flooded roads, and
flooding of streams are possible.
* People in the watch area should be aware of the threat of
heavy rainfall. Avoid low lying areas...and be careful when
approaching highway dips and underpasses. Do not drive through
flooded spots on roads, especially if you do not know how deep
the water is.
