  • ...Potential For Significant River Flooding Across the Mid-
    South...
The developing weather pattern will be conducive for widespread
heavy rainfall across much of the Mississippi, Ohio, and Tennessee
River Valleys. Average rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches are
expected over the next 7 days. The ground is already saturated
across much of the Mid-South and this rainfall will result in
additional flooding, affecting main stem rivers and local
tributaries. The potential for above normal rainfall will continue
into March which may prolong the river flood threat.
Significant flooding is expected along the Mississippi River. The
river is forecast to gradually rise through early March, resulting
in a prolonged period of flooding. Additional rises are expected
along the Tennessee River, which is already above flood stage at
    Savannah.
Flooding is also expected along some tributaries and smaller
streams. Widespread lowland flooding is likely. There is an
increased risk for flooding of more homes and businesses than
    usual.
Monitor flood outlooks and forecasts closely over the next several
weeks. Changes in observed and forecast rainfall amounts will
    affect river forecasts.
