...Patchy Dense Fog Expected Through 9 AM EDT This Morning...
Patchy dense fog has developed throughout many valleys generally
west of the Blue Ridge this morning. The fog is particularly
dense along the I-81 and I-77 corridors from Pulaski southwest to
Chilhowie and along I-77 from Max Meadows southward to the North
Carolina border. These areas are under a Dense Fog Advisory until
9 AM EDT. Visibilities elsewhere are mostly in the 1 to 3 mile
range with localized areas having visibilities less than 1 mile.
Generally, the lowest visibilities will be found in the valleys
and near bodies of water as well as along some of the higher
terrain and ridges at or above 2500 feet.
As you drive through these sections of Virginia and northwest
North Carolina early this morning, be prepared for areas of
rapidly changing visibility from unlimited in spots to near zero
just a little bit further down the road. When driving in these
areas of dense fog, reduce speed, use low beam headlights, and
allow extra distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Allow extra time to reach your destination so you don`t have to be
in a rush in these kind of poor driving conditions.
