...WINTRY WEATHER EXPECTED ACROSS MUCH OF NORTHEAST GEORGIA AND
THE WESTERN CAROLINAS THIS MORNING...
.A low pressure system approaching from the Deep South will
bring abundant moisture to the western Carolinas and northeast
Georgia this morning. This moisture will encounter cold air in
place across the region to yield a wintry mix of precipitation.
Precipitation will likely start out as a mixture of rain, snow,
and sleet across the region before transitioning over to freezing
rain from south to north through the morning hours. Wintry
precipitation will impact mainly locations along and northwest of
the Interstate 85 corridor. Temperatures should warm sufficiently
to support all rain throughout the region by this afternoon.
...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM EST THIS
MORNING...
* WHAT...Mixed precipitation. Snow, sleet, and rain
developing from the south overnight will transition to mainly
freezing rain before ending as rain on Sunday. Total snow
accumulations of 1 to 2 inches, are expected for many areas,
with a few northern mountain and high ridge top locations
seeing 3 to 4 inches of snow. Ice accumulations will range
widely from a light glaze to around one tenth of an inch.
* WHERE...The mountains of western North Carolina.
* WHEN...Until 10 AM EST this morning. The wintry precipitation
will arrive from the southwest during the early morning hours.
It will transition steadily from snow and sleet to freezing rain
around daybreak, or a bit later along the northern Blue Ridge,
before becoming all rain by late morning.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The ice will result in difficult travel
conditions. Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times.
