  • The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has extended
    the
    * Flood Warning for...
    McDowell County in western North Carolina...
    Western Burke County in western North Carolina...
    * Until 100 AM EDT Friday.
    * At 632 PM EDT, excessive runoff continues over the region, and
    flows remain high along the upper Catawba River, the North Fork
    Catawba River, and associated tributaries. These flows will
    continue to cause flooding of low-lying areas and some roadways.
    * High flows in the upper Catawba watershed is causing Lake James
    to rise as well. According to Duke Energy, Lake James is not
    expected to exceed 103.0 feet. However, Lake James will continue
    to rise into Friday morning and flooding of campgrounds, docks,
    boat access areas, and other areas along the shoreline is
    likely.
    * The following streamgauge remains above Minor Flood Stage:
    Catawba River at Pleasant Gardens.
    Current Stage: 11.40 feet and falling steadily.
    Forecast: The Catawba River will continue to recede into the
    evening hours. A fall below Minor Flood Stage is expected by 8 PM
    tonight with a fall below Action/Advisory Stage later tonight.
    Action Stage: 9.0 feet.
    Minor Flood Stage: 11.0 feet.
    Impacts: At 11.0 feet, Minor Flood Stage. The Catawba River may
    be starting to flood the Riverbreeze Campground located a few
    miles downstream of the gauge, especially if high flows are
    occurring along Buck Creek due to spillage at Lake Tahoma upstream.

    Marion, Lake James State Park, Lake James, Nebo, Pleasant Gardens,
    Glenwood, Ashford, Woodlawn, Sugar Hill and North Cove.
