...WINTRY WEATHER EXPECTED ACROSS MUCH OF NORTHEAST GEORGIA AND
THE WESTERN CAROLINAS THIS MORNING...
.A low pressure system approaching from the Deep South will
bring abundant moisture to the western Carolinas and northeast
Georgia this morning. This moisture will encounter cold air in
place across the region to yield a wintry mix of precipitation.
Precipitation will likely start out as a mixture of rain, snow,
and sleet across the region before transitioning over to freezing
rain from south to north through the morning hours. Wintry
precipitation will impact mainly locations along and northwest of
the Interstate 85 corridor. Temperatures should warm sufficiently
to support all rain throughout the region by this afternoon.
...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM EST THIS
MORNING...
* WHAT...Mixed precipitation. Snow accumulations of up to one half
inch are expected in the mountains, and ice accumulations of
around one tenth are expected across the mountains and
foothills. Locations from northern Spartanburg County northward
through the North Carolina foothills could see between one and
two tenths of an inch of ice from the freezing rain.
* WHERE...Portions of upstate South Carolina, northeast Georgia
and piedmont and western North Carolina, generally northwest of
the I-85 corridor.
* WHEN...Until 10 AM EST this morning. Precipitation will begin as
a mix of light snow, sleet, and rain, changing over to mainly
freezing rain from the south shortly after daybreak, then change
to all rain from south to north through the late morning hours.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The ice will result in difficult travel
conditions. Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times.
