A new experimental procedure known as MRI-guided HIFU, uses magnetic-resonance imaging to focus heat-generating, high-intensity ultrasound onto fibroid tumor growths in women. Real-time MRI scans guide the ultrasound procedure and monitor temperatures in and around targeted tissues. Shown: Dr. Aytekin Oto and Nathaniel Crump of the University of Chicago monitor the MRI-guided HIFU procedure with the rest of the team.
