CPL CELEBRATES POETRY MONTH
Chicago Public Library (CPL) celebrated Poetry Month in April, with events at branch locations throughout the city and culminated in the free, day-long Poetry Fest of poetry readings, workshops and exhibitors on April 29, 2017 at Harold Washington Library Center, located on 400 South State Street.

When the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. was finished in 1983, the wall listed approximately 58,000 servicemen and women who had either died in action or went missing in action during the Vietnam War. Because of a fire at a government storage facility in 1973, the U.S. military lost millions of personnel records, including many of those who were listed on the wall. Although the military and other organizations made efforts to recover lost data, 24,000 veterans listed on the wall had no photo in their military records in 2013.

On April 24, NASA launched a football-stadium-sized, super-pressure balloon on a mission that aims to set a record for flight duration while carrying a telescope that scientists at the University of Chicago and around the world will use to study cosmic rays.

13 YEAR OLD CHATHAM TWINS SCORE BIG ON CPS SELECTIVE ENROLLMENT TEST
Alexis and Kayla Cain, 13- year old twin sisters who are residents of Chatham Village scored 898 and 896 out of a possible 900 on the CPS Selective Enrollment test at Kenwood Academy. Straight A students and perennials on the principal’s list, the 8th graders will attend Whitney Young High School in the fall.
