During a recent press conference, the Urban Growers Collective, Heartland Alliance’s READI Chicago Program, and the Mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, all came together to announce the launch of Grounds for Peace, a vacant lot beautification pilot program. Through Grounds for Peace, 50 city-owned vacant lots in North Lawndale, Woodlawn, and Englewood will be transformed through new landscaping.

Class Action Settlement Involving Kiip, Inc.’s Advertising Platform Announced
A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit involving claims that Kiip, Inc. (“Kiip”) violated the law by using its advertising platform to collect, intercept, or transmit consumers’ personal information through a software application without first getting permission from those consumers. The case is called Farag et al. v. Kiip, Inc., Case No. 2019 CH 01695 (Ill. Cir. Ct. Cook Cnty.).

After receiving an overwhelming response of nominations for children who could use this kind of support, Walker put out the call to other Chicago-area business owners and created the I Promise Back To School Challenge.

Former television executive producer, Tenisha Taylor, is hosting the 3rd Annual Ezekiel Taylor Scholarship Foundation (ETSF) Gala and Silent Auction on Saturday, July 27 th 7 p.m. at the Hilton Chicago – Oak Lawn. ETSF provides mentorship and scholarships to African-American male students impacted by Chicago’s gun violence. The foundation, named after Taylor’s father who was killed on Chicago’s Southside, is awarding 23 scholarships this year. The foundation has awarded more than 50 scholarships since 2017.

According to a new report produced in part by Black Lives Matter co-founder Alicia Garza, Black lesbian, gay and bisexual Americans may be more concerned with everyday economic issues like low wages, unaffordable health care, and access to housing. More respondents identified these as higher prioritiesthan marriage equality, though they strongly support laws enabling gay and lesbian couples to marry legally.
