Art Project Features Portraits Of Students On Trash Bins
An art teacher in Austin created a project for students aimed at beautifying the community. Kayla Lashley is an art teacher at the Moving Everest Charter School. She, along with students from By The Hand Club For Kids in Moving Everest painted trash bins located down Laramie Avenue. The bins feature portraits of local students.
New Commodore Aims For More Inclusive Yacht Club
Flora Digby fell in love with boats after attending the Boat Show in 1989. She and her husband bought a boat and put their boat in the Jackson Park Outer Harbor. There, they met members of the Southern Shore Yacht Club. More than 30 years later, Digby is the Commodore of the Southern Shore Yacht Club, where she is the second African American woman to hold the post.
Superhero Dads At Center Of Short Film
A local creative agency has come up with a way to show the superpowers that dads possess through a short film. Contender recently released the animated short film, “Answering the Call,” for Walmart’s Black and Unlimited Platform. The short film features the League of Black & Unlimited Dads, a group of fathers from different backgrounds who are able to use their superpowers to fix problems and save the day.

Joe E. Gillie has been collecting African and Black art since the 1960s. Growing up in the Black Revolution movement, anytime he saw Black or African art, he purchased it. He always wanted to open a gallery to showcase the art he collected.

Attorney General Kwame Raoul, as part of a multistate coalition of 11 attorneys general, submitted a comment letter in response to the Federal Trade Commission and U.S. Departments of Justice and Health and Human Services’ request for information regarding consolidation in health care by private equity. In their letter, the attorneys general lay out possible enforcement and regulatory actions to address the detrimental effects of private equity health care transactions that have harmed patients and undermined the financial viability of health care providers.
Nearly 200 Teachers Join Chicago Public Schools After Completing Rigorous Teacher Residency Program
Chicago Public Schools (CPS) CEO Pedro Martinez, Chicago Teachers Union President Stacy Davis Gates and community members Monday night honored 193 new resident teachers who will lead classrooms next fall through an innovative CPS program that helps current employees or career changers, earn the educational degrees, credentials, and on-the-job experience needed to become CPS teachers. The 2024 inductees represent the program’s largest cohort to date.
