LUV Institute gears up for its Wreaths of LUV project
What started out as a pop-up shop where 200 wreaths were sold has grown. Eight years later, 12-15 young people create wreaths for six to eight weeks, selling almost 700 door wreaths and 150 Holiday Décor Wreaths. The young people who participate in the program are provided with a stipend, which allows those young people to receive more income.

DURBIN ANNOUNCES $450,000 FOR CHICAGO STATE UNIVERSITY HEALTH SCIENCES SIMULATION LAB
U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) visited Chicago State University (CSU) to discuss the $450,000 in federal funding he secured through Congressionally Directed Spending—more commonly known as an earmark—in the Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22) Omnibus appropriations bill to purchase science laboratory equipment for their Health Sciences Simulation Lab. This funding will be used to help students learn best practices in pediatric and home health care, as well as support a workforce pipeline of nurses, occupational therapists, and pharmacists.
ROSELAND MEDICAL DISTRICT MASTER PLAN GOES TO NEXT STAGE
The Master Plan for the Roseland Medical District has gone to the next steps in the process. The plan was released by the Department of Planning and Development for public comment until Monday, Nov. 7th After November 7th, no additional public comments could be made.

ComEd, Peoples Gas, and North Shore Gas to Collaborate on Gas Meter Reading
The Illinois Commerce Commission has approved an innovative collaboration that enables Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas to securely transmit natural gas meter data via ComEd’s smart grid communications network, creating new efficiencies and cost savings for gas customers and reducing carbon emissions. Together, the two natural gas providers serve more than 1 million customers, and the majority receive their electricity service from ComEd.

Tell the Supreme Court: We Still Need Affirmative Action
I am so grateful for Justice Jackson’s voice on the Court. I also know that the six right-wing justices expressed skepticism of affirmative action at oral arguments. Many reporters are already writing its obituary. I hope for the sake of our education system and our next generation, that they will be wrong. The “compelling interest” that led the Court to uphold affirmative action in the past still exists – in fact, it may be stronger than ever.
