A four-year initiative for Chicago’s BIPOC-led and focused arts and cultural organizations has been supporting 40 organizations since 2020. The goal of Chicago’s Cultural Treasures is to provide financial support to sustain these arts and cultural organizations so they can be around well into the future.
Girls Like Me Project, Inc. is excited to celebrate their 12th Annual Chicago Day of the Girl on October 11th from 10 AM until 2 PM at the historic South Shore Cultural Center. Mayor Brandon Johnson announced that over 24,000 young people were employed through the One Summer Chicago (OSC) program during the summer of 2023, representing a 19% increase from the previous year. The OSC program is a partnership between the Mayor’s Office, the Department of Family and Support Services, Chicago Public Schools, Chicago Park District, Chicago Housing Authority, Chicago Transit Authority, City Colleges of Chicago, community-based organizations, corporate partners, and local companies to offer employment and internship opportunities to young people ages 14 to 24.
What began as Joseph Williams reading to his daughter’s class at her school, became a movement to get fathers involved in their children’s lives.
Williams started Mr. Dad’s Father’s Club in 2017. It was an outlet for him. He began helping out at the school doing lunchroom duty and hallway monitoring. He built a respect level with the children at the school. He wanted to tap into his children’s lives through volunteering.

Hundreds of Chicagoans have already enrolled in Just Us Bridge's online legal courses, gaining valuable insights into areas such as eviction, debt collection, wage garnishment, and more. When Geri Harston was in grammar school, she would watch the electricians install lights on the streets. She looked at it and believed it was something she could do. She had an opportunity to sign up for the journeyman apprenticeship program. She went through the program and worked in the field for 11 years then was called back to teach at the apprenticeship program.
Stacy Tolar founded Keeping Adolescents Off the Streets (KAOS) Bulldogs Cheer in 2010. It was a time when a lot of school-based after school programs were being shut down. Tolar thought the children in the community still needed an after school physical activity.
