Carter has more than 30 years of experience in Information Technology. He learned about computers from a friend and he excelled in it. Throughout his career, he has worked as a desktop support engineer, network engineer, project manager and also started his own consulting firm. He has been self-employed since in 2003. He did all of that without a college degree.

In Illinois, medical practice “Champions” of the Home Centered Care Institute’s (HCCI) Illinois House Call Project (ILHCP) have spent the past year working to provide care and close the gap on the nearly 200,000 residents in the state requiring, but not yet receiving, home-based primary care (HBPC). In just one year, these 14 participating practices have provided care to 1,732 new patients, already putting them over halfway to the project’s total three-year goal of serving 3,000 new patients.

The Chicago Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS) announced the official launch of the Emergency Financial Assistance (EFA) for Gender-based Violence and Human Trafficking (GBV/HT) Survivors, a new $5M fund to provide cash assistance to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, or human trafficking, with an additional $1M in funding from the 2023 budget. The program will provide one-time, $1000 payments in support of the economic stability of survivors. The application will be open until June 30. Approved applications in this period will receive assistance in the order in which they applied, following the successful processing of the application itself.
Mayor Brandon Johnson announced that the City of Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) is set to receive a grant of $6.8 million from the Mellon Foundation to support the Chicago Monuments Project (CMP) and citywide community-generated commemorative initiatives and installations. The funding, the Mellon Foundation’s largest grant to date, will allow for the implementation of eight new Chicago monuments, including the Chicago Torture Justice Memorial, all of which were conceived and developed from the community engagement work of the Chicago Monuments Project.

The LGC Search Committee, comprised of board members and Fellows, led a rigorous national search in partnership with Koya Partners, a search firm that specializes in placing CEOs in mission-driven roles. Myetie, a proud LGC Fellow since 2016, will step into the CEO position as the first Black American woman to lead the organization.
At a surprise celebration with Googlers, entrepreneurs and Mayor Brandon Johnson, Google announced the Chicago recipients of its annual Google for Startups Black and Latino Founders Funds, which provide promising Black and Latino-led startups non-equity cash awards to help fuel their businesses. The five Chicago-based startups received a total of $750,000 in funding.
The Cook County Land Bank Authority (CCLBA) announced two new initiatives that will make homeownership more attainable in Cook County. First, the organization announced that more than 100 rehab-ready homes in Englewood are now available at rates discounted at 50% through September 14. In addition, the CCLBA has launched the Purchase Assistance Program, which provides up to $20,000 for potential homebuyers purchasing a home through the Cook County Land Bank Authority. Homebuyers purchasing a discounted Englewood property as their primary residence may also be eligible for Purchase Assistance.
Black is Beautiful, an influential initiative launched by Weathered Souls Brewing CO in 2020 in support of equality and social justice reform, is making a resounding comeback.
