Hundreds of Millions of Dollars delivered to Calumet City and the 29th Legislative District


When it comes to the delivery of funds to local governments, there is one legislator that stands out far and beyond others. Illinois State Representative Thaddeus Jones has clearly earned the distinction of a hard nose no nonsense politician. But his most vibrant role has been well earned, clearly recognizable, and simply remarkable. Villages, School districts, Park Districts, and Colleges have all benefited from the Representative’s undying commitment to the delivery of much needed funding.

 

Thaddeus Jones has made a standing courtesy to each of the towns in which he represents to offer a listening tour of sorts to the needs of his constituents. In fact, one can just look at the enormous developments and progress at South Suburban College. From its expansion program to the services provided, the college has called upon Representative Jones to assist in endeavors throughout their system of education. Some of which include:

 

•        $3.1 million Capital bond refinancing project

•        $225,000 IL Community College Board grant award (2011)

•        $225,000 IL Community College Board grant award (2013)

•        $437,000 reapportionment of funds

•        $58 Million for new Allied health center

•         $1.5 million for new diversity program

 

 

 

For Representative Jones, Park Districts and Library Districts are near and dear to his vision of community engagement. Numerous Park districts have been able to upgrade playground equipment for kids, improve their facilities, and have been able to remain vibrant and relevant in their services to residents because of the firm support of Representative Jones. Park Commissioners have pointed to the enormous beautification of their grounds in part due to help of Thaddeus Jones such as the $1 Million dollars to the Calumet Park District and the $2.8 million Dollars to the Dolton Park District Banquet Hall.

 

The Representative also is the Mayor of Calumet City where he has served for more than twenty-two years, eighteen of which as 3rd ward Alderman. Representative Jones has delivered over $130 million dollars that has enhanced public infrastructure, economic development, public safety, and the public library. Calumet City experienced tremendous growth and stability during Representative Jones’ tenure and has continued to prosper regardless of the nation’s declining economy and rising inflation.

 

A small snapshot of these projects include:

•         $5 Million Dollars to Calumet City for street repair (2017)

•         $1.7 Million to Calumet City for Road Repair

•         $11 million for Burnham avenue reconstruction

•         $5 million for Pulaski Road Construction

•         $17 million for Wentworth woods redevelopment

•         $10,000,000 Rebuild IL budget allocations

•         $35,000,000 Capital Bond for various projects

•         $20,000,000 IEPA Commitment to fund the Lead Clear / Lead Safe City lead service lines replacements

•         $15,000,000 Little Calumet River Levee US Army Corps grant

 

Hundreds of businesses have landed in Calumet City due to Mayor Jones and his staff’s relentless aggression in extending an olive branch to big and small businesses.

 

It is rare when a legislator has performed such a high volume of deliverables to one region, but Jones has been unmatched in this mode. He continues to be in a leading class of lawmakers who have a keen sense of the needs of their district, all while understanding the purpose of sustainability and growth.
