The 20th annual Silas Purnell College Expo, Connecting Students with College, Careers and Scholarship Opportunities
The Chesterfield Community Council invites high school students, parents, families, educators, and community members to attend the 20th Annual Silas Purnell College Expo on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Tuley Park Field House, 501 East 90th Place (90th Street & King Drive), Chicago, IL.
This FREE educational and college-access event is designed to help students take the next step toward their educational and career goals. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect directly with representatives from colleges, universities, trade schools, and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) while gaining valuable information about admissions, financial aid, scholarships, career pathways, and post-secondary opportunities.
The 20th Annual Expo will feature three dynamic and informative seminars:
• Money for College — Learn about financial aid, scholarships, and strategies for making college more affordable.
• Essay Writing — Gain practical guidance on developing compelling college application essays.
• Resume Preparation — Learn how to create a strong resume that highlights skills, accomplishments, education, and experiences.
Celebrating the Legacy of Silas Purnell
The College Expo honors the enduring legacy of the late Silas Purnell, a respected Chesterfield community leader, educator, and champion for youth whose commitment to education opened doors of opportunity for generations of students.
Throughout his years of service, Purnell helped more than 50,000 students pursue college admissions and scholarship opportunities at institutions across the country. His passion for education and his belief in the potential of young people remain at the heart of this annual event.
“Silas Purnell believed that education could change the trajectory of a young person’s life,” said Eli Washington, Chairman of the Chesterfield Community Council. “This 20th Annual College Expo continues his mission by giving students and families access to the information, resources, and connections they need to make informed decisions about their future.”
