MEGA MENTAL HEALTH GATHERING TO BE HELD AT THE OBAMA CENTER
Friday, November 13th, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Obama Presidential Center - 6001 South Stony Island Avenue Chicago, Il 60637
(Nelson Mandela Sky Room)
As Chicago prepares for colder temperatures and the emotional challenges that often accompany the fall and winter seasons, The Link & Option Center, Inc. is taking a bold step toward addressing one of the region's most urgent public health concerns: equitable access to mental health care. On Friday, November 13, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the organization will host its inaugural reception, “Launching a Mobile Mental Health Equity Initiative,” at the historic Obama Presidential Center's Nelson Mandela Sky Room, located at 6001 S. Stony Island Avenue in Chicago. The awesome occasion is being hosted by Dr. Twin Green, Founder, President, and CEO of The Link & Option Center, Inc., alongside the organization's Board of Directors. The event will be followed by an Exclusive Museum Tour Experience beginning at 9:00 PM.
The landmark November 13 reception will unite elected officials, community leaders, and philanthropic partners to expand access to critical mental health services across underserved communities as Chicago approaches the winter months. The reception will serve as both a celebration of community-driven innovation and a call to action for corporate sponsors, philanthropic organizations, government leaders, and community stakeholders to invest in a multi-year effort to advance mental health equity.
The setting carries particular significance. The Obama Presidential Center represents a vision of leadership, opportunity, civic engagement, and community transformation on Chicago's South Side. By convening this inaugural reception at such a landmark destination, The Link & Option Center seeks to connect that spirit of community empowerment with a pressing need: ensuring that mental health services reach residents who might otherwise struggle to access them. The inaugural reception will also invite sponsors to become founding partners in a sustained, multi-year investment designed to strengthen mental health equity and support the development of accessible services for communities that have historically experienced gaps in care. The reception will also provide an opportunity for regional leaders to emphasize the importance of investing in mental health infrastructure that extends beyond traditional clinical settings. State Representative Debbie Meyers-Martin emphasized the significance of removing barriers to care.
“Mental health care should never be a privilege determined by your ZIP code, your income, or your ability to travel to a provider. As we enter the colder months, when so many families are facing increased emotional and financial pressures, initiatives like this are critically important.”
The Link & Options central mission is to help remove the barriers that prevent vulnerable residents from receiving timely, accessible, and compassionate mental health support. Through a mobile approach, the organization aims to bring services directly into communities, reducing the challenges associated with transportation, geographic disparities, limited local resources, and the stigma that can discourage individuals from seeking care. Cook County Commissioner Kisha McCaskill underscored the importance of sustainable funding and equitable access:
“When we talk about building healthier and stronger communities, mental health must be at the center of that conversation. No resident should suffer in silence simply because services are too far away, too expensive, or too difficult to navigate. As we approach the winter season, the need for accessible mental health support becomes even more urgent,” says Cook County Commissioner Kisha McCaskill.
The launch comes at a particularly critical time. As daylight hours shorten and temperatures decline, some individuals experience seasonal affective disorder, increased depressive symptoms, social isolation, and other mental health challenges. For residents already facing financial hardship, housing instability, transportation limitations, or insufficient access to health care, these seasonal pressures can intensify existing difficulties.
The November 13 gathering will feature an elegant evening reception with cocktail attire and an exclusive museum tour experience, offering attendees an opportunity to experience one of Chicago's newest historic cultural landmarks while supporting an initiative focused on improving community health outcomes.
