LOVE & PROTECT WISDOM CALLS ON CHICAGO TO LIGHT THE CITY PURPLE AND SUPPORT CHILDREN IMPACTED BY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
2nd Annual “Tower Over Domestic Violence” Campaign Will Raise Funds for TLC – The Love Continues, Supporting Children and Young People Who Have Lost a Parent or Primary Caregiver to Domestic Violence
The Chicago’s skyline will glow purple this October as Love & Protect Wisdom (LPW) launches its second annual “Tower Over Domestic Violence” campaign to raise awareness about domestic violence and support children and young people who have lost a parent or primary caregiver to domestic violence homicide.
Held October 23–29 in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the campaign is calling on residents, businesses, churches, schools, corporations and community organizations throughout Chicago to illuminate their spaces in purple as a visible show of solidarity with survivors and families affected by domestic violence.
Major Chicago landmarks, including Willis Tower, the John Hancock Center, Bank of America, Blue Cross Blue Shield Tower and the Prudential Building, are expected to illuminate their buildings in purple in support of the campaign.
Funds raised through this year’s campaign will benefit TLC – The Love Continues, an LPW initiative serving children and young people ages 0–22 who have lost a parent or primary caregiver due to domestic violence homicide.
For these young people, the impact can continue long after the immediate tragedy. They may face grief and trauma while adjusting to changes in their families, homes, schools and everyday lives. TLC seeks to provide ongoing support, resources and connections to help young people and their families navigate those challenges.
“When Chicago lights up purple, we want survivors and families to look around this city and know they are seen, supported and not alone,” said Loné Williams, founder of Love & Protect Wisdom. “This campaign is about more than lighting buildings. It is about illuminating an issue that too often remains hidden and turning awareness into action.”
As part of the campaign, LPW will host a special fundraising event on Monday, October 26, from 6 to 9 p.m. at VU Rooftop, 133 E. Cermak Rd. in Chicago.
The event will bring together community members, advocates, corporate partners and supporters to raise funds while increasing awareness of TLC and the needs of children and young adults affected by domestic violence homicide.
LPW is also encouraging Chicagoans to become part of the campaign by placing purple lights in windows or illuminating homes, storefronts, offices, churches, schools and other visible spaces between October 23 and 29. Participants can share photos of their purple-lit spaces on social media using #TowerOverDomesticViolence.
“We don’t want people to simply see the purple skyline—we want them to become part of it,” Williams said. “Every action helps us remind survivors and families that an entire city is standing with them—and reminds these children that the love and support for them continues.”
