Cook County Board of Review Opens Third Group of Townships for 2026 Property Tax Appeal Season

WHAT:
The Cook County Board of Review (CCBOR) will begin accepting 2026 property tax assessment appeals for the third group of townships. The third group will open for filing on Thursday, October 8, 2026. Property owners in these designated townships are encouraged to review their assessments and file an appeal if they believe their assessed value is inaccurate. The filing period for Group 3 will close on Friday, November 6.

 

The Board provides an independent review of property assessments and offers a free, transparent appeal process for all Cook County taxpayers. Property owners in the 38 townships of Cook County will have an opportunity to file this year.

 


WHERE:
Appeals may be filed online at www.cookcountyboardofreview.com or through attorneys or authorized tax representatives. They may also be filed in person at the Cook County Board of Review office Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., located at 118 N Clark St., Chicago, IL 60602. There is no fee to file an appeal. 

 

The Pre-file period (Non-Attorneys) is also currently open and allows all filers to submit their appeal before each township officially opens. Please be advised that the Pre-file period will end once the respective township is open.

WHY IT MATTERS:
The Board of Review serves as the second level of appeal in the Cook County property tax assessment process, ensuring taxpayers have access to an independent review of their assessments. During the 2025 tax year, the Board processed a record 290,533 appeals, underscoring the importance of this taxpayer protection.
