Safe Sleep Event Connects Chicago Families With Resources to Protect Infants

On Tuesday, October 27th, families, healthcare providers and community organizations came together last week to promote infant sleep safety and raise awareness about practices that help reduce sleep-related infant deaths.

Hosted by the Chicago Department of Health, the event provided parents and caregivers with education, resources and practical guidance on creating safe sleep environments for infants. Attendees learned about the importance of placing babies on their backs to sleep, using a firm sleep surface, and keeping cribs free of blankets, pillows and other soft items that can increase the risk of suffocation.

The event highlighted the critical role safe sleep practices play in protecting infants during their first year of life. Health officials and community partners shared information, answered questions and connected families with resources designed to support healthy infant development and prevent sleep-related tragedies.

Organizers emphasized that safe sleep education remains a vital public health priority, particularly as communities work to address disparities in infant mortality and ensure every family has access to life-saving information.

The gathering built on the City of Chicago's ongoing efforts to educate parents, caregivers and family members about evidence-based sleep safety recommendations. Families who were unable to attend can learn more about infant sleep safety guidelines, safe sleep environments and resources for caregivers by visiting the City of Chicago's Infant Sleep Safety webpage: Infant Sleep Safety Resources.
