One Hope United Raises More Than $160,000 at 4th Annual Thriving Together Luncheon

One Hope United (OHU) welcomed supporters, partners, and community leaders to the Ivy Room in Chicago for its 4th annual Thriving Together Luncheon on June 11, raising more than $160,000 to support children, youth, and families across Illinois and Florida.

The event brought together over 100 attendees to support One Hope United's work in early childhood education, residential care, child welfare, and mental health services. Hosted by CBS Chicago reporter Jackie Kostek, the luncheon featured inspiring stories of resilience, healing, and hope, while highlighting the transformative impact of One Hope United's programs.

"Everything we do is rooted in one simple belief: every child deserves safety, stability, opportunity, and hope," said Damon Cates, President and CEO of One Hope United. "The generosity shown by our community at Thriving Together helps ensure we can continue evolving to meet the changing needs of children and families for generations to come."

Guests also heard a powerful conversation featuring Hope House alum Jenna, her mother Faith, and Chuck Metellus, Senior Director of Programs for Hope Houses. Their story offered a firsthand look at the healing power of family reunification, supportive relationships, and the Hope House model, which provides youth involved in the child welfare system with stable, family-style homes and individualized support.

“It was a life-changing experience when I met the staff at Hope House. I wasn’t just a foster kid to them—it felt like something more genuine. They wanted to get to know me, build a relationship, and actually make a difference in what I was going through and what my life would become,” said Jenna, Hope House alum.

The luncheon also recognized outstanding leadership and community impact. Congressman Darin LaHood received One Hope United's inaugural National Legislator of the Year Award, while Emily Selbe was honored with the Ermit L. Finch Impact Award for her longstanding dedication and service to the organization.

One Hope United also recognized its valued event sponsors, including Visionary Sponsor Edward Jones and Champion Sponsor Axion, whose partnership continues to help expand opportunities for children and families.
