United African Organization to Host Free Citizenship Clinic in Bolingbrook
BOLINGBROOK, IL. — The United African Organization (UAO) will host a free citizenship clinic on June 18 to help lawful permanent residents navigate the process of becoming U.S. citizens.
The clinic will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at ICON System Inc., 340 Quadrangle Drive in Bolingbrook. The event is open to eligible immigrants seeking assistance with naturalization applications and information about the path to citizenship.
Organizers say the clinic aims to remove barriers that often prevent immigrants from completing the citizenship process by providing one-on-one guidance, eligibility screenings, application support and access to community resources.
“Citizenship opens doors to greater civic participation, economic opportunities, and a stronger sense of belonging in our communities,” said Latifat Bakare, legal case assistant at the United African Organization. “We are committed to ensuring that eligible residents have access to the resources and support they need to achieve their American dream.”
The event is part of the organization's broader efforts to support immigrant and refugee communities across Illinois through education, advocacy and direct services. UAO works with community partners to provide resources that strengthen civic engagement and promote social and economic empowerment.
The citizenship clinic is supported by the New Americans Initiative, the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) and the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS).
Founded as a coalition of African community-based organizations, the United African Organization serves African immigrants and refugees throughout Illinois. The organization focuses on advancing social and economic justice through leadership development, community education, public policy advocacy and direct services.
Individuals interested in attending the free clinic or learning more about citizenship assistance can contact UAO at (312) 900-8189.
