Here’s How One Lucky Illinoisan Will Control the Chicago Skyline in 2027
The Skyline Lighting Raffle will award one Illinois resident a never-before-offered opportunity to illuminate downtown Chicago for a personal cause, milestone, or celebration, BOMA/Chicago says.
(Chicago, IL -From Winthrop Harbor to Carbondale—and everywhere in between—one lucky Illinoisan will light up the Chicago skyline with a color of their choosing if they win a never-before-offered raffle.
Open to all Illinois residents age 18 and older, the Building Owners and Managers Association of Chicago Foundation’s new Skyline Lighting Raffle is now live through Aug. 21. The raffle invites participants to purchase $25 tickets for a chance to design a custom skyline lighting display across downtown Chicago in 2027. The winning participant will work directly with BOMA/Chicago to create a meaningful lighting campaign celebrating a personal milestone, honoring a loved one, raising awareness for a cause—or maybe it’s just a favorite color.
The lighting opportunity commemorates BOMA/Chicago’s 125th anniversary in 2027.
“For 125 years, our members have helped shape and care for Chicago’s skyline,” said BOMA/Chicago President Nancy Capadona. “What better way to celebrate than by connecting our skyline to the people who make up this city?”
How It Works
One winner will be randomly selected on Aug. 28. The selected individual will:
• Choose a meaningful date in 2027 for their lighting campaign
• Collaborate with BOMA/Chicago to design a lighting display
• See their concept come to life across participating downtown buildings for a three- to seven-day period
• Receive an included professional photoshoot by Barry Butler capturing the winner and their skyline moment
The lighting campaign will be announced publicly, allowing the broader community to share in the celebration.
Supporting the Next Generation of Talent
Proceeds from the raffle directly benefit the BOMA/Chicago Foundation, supporting scholarships, education programs, and workforce development initiatives in the commercial real estate industry.
“This raffle is a way to celebrate our legacy while investing in what comes next—supporting education and career pathways for the future of commercial real estate,” said Bridgette Battle, President of the BOMA/Chicago Foundation.
By participating, entrants not only have the chance to create a once-in-a-lifetime skyline experience but also contribute to building a stronger, more inclusive future for the city.
Under its Illuminate Chicago program, BOMA/Chicago coordinates lighting across downtown buildings to highlight civic and philanthropic initiatives throughout the year.
