COMMUNITY PRIDE
(Olympia Fields, IL) Rich Township welcomed hundreds of residents, families, community leaders, and visitors from across the Southland for its inaugural "United Under the Stars" Independence Day Celebration, commemorating America's historic 250th anniversary with an afternoon filled with patriotism, fellowship, music, and family fun. Held at the Olympia Fields Park District, the celebration showcased the strength of regional collaboration by bringing together neighboring municipalities and residents for a unified celebration of community pride.
The family-friendly event featured free barbecue, a diverse lineup of food trucks, local vendors, live musical entertainment, children's activities, and interactive experiences for guests of all ages. Families gathered throughout the day to enjoy great food, connect with neighbors, and celebrate the nation's founding in an atmosphere that reflected the values of unity, service, and civic pride that continue to define the Southland.
One of the day's defining highlights was Rich Township's recognition of the collective partnership among neighboring communities, including Country Club Hills, Flossmoor, Hazel Crest, Homewood, Matteson, Olympia Fields, Park Forest, Richton Park, Tinley Park, and University Park. The celebration reinforced Rich Township's ongoing commitment to strengthening regional relationships while creating opportunities for residents to come together beyond municipal boundaries.
“This celebration represented far more than Independence Day. It represented what is possible when communities choose to stand together,” said Rich Township Supervisor Calvin Jordan. “As we commemorate America's 250th anniversary, Rich Township is proud to lead by example, bringing our neighboring municipalities together in a spirit of unity, collaboration, and shared purpose. Seeing families, elected officials, and residents celebrating side by side reminds us that our greatest strength has always been our ability to build stronger communities together.”
The event also highlighted Rich Township's continued investment in community engagement by providing residents with a free, inclusive celebration that was accessible to families across the region. Through strategic partnerships, volunteer support, and the participation of local businesses and vendors, the Township created an experience that celebrated both America's rich history and the vibrant future of the Southland.
As Rich Township continues expanding programs and regional partnerships, the success of the "United Under the Stars" celebration serves as another example of the Township's mission to unite communities, strengthen relationships, and create meaningful opportunities that improve the quality of life for residents throughout the South Suburbs.
