The 37th Annual GhanaFest® Returns to Chicago on July 25th Following One-Year Hiatus

Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago to Kick Off Celebration with Historic Inaugural Ghana Flag-Raising Ceremony at Daley Plaza

The 37th Annual GhanaFest®, presented by the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago (GNC) and sponsored by PassportPay, will take place on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Washington Park. For nearly four decades, GhanaFest® has brought together thousands of residents and visitors to celebrate Ghana's vibrant culture through food, music, art, fashion, business, and family-friendly activities.

This year's theme, "Connecting Our Community Through Culture and Commerce," reflects the festival's commitment to strengthening relationships through cultural exchange while creating opportunities for local businesses, entrepreneurs, and community organizations.

The festival's return marks an exciting new chapter under the leadership of GNC President Effah Ameyaw, whose vision has focused on expanding partnerships and introducing new initiatives that engage both the Ghanaian community and the broader Chicago region.

"GhanaFest® is more than a festival—it is a celebration of who we are as a people and an invitation for everyone to experience the richness of Ghanaian culture," said Ameyaw, president of the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago. "As we return this year, we are excited to strengthen the connection between culture and commerce by creating opportunities for businesses, families, and communities to come together in fellowship and celebration. We welcome people from every background to join us as we showcase Ghana's traditions, hospitality, and contributions to the cultural fabric of Chicago."

One of this year's biggest attractions will be the appearance of acclaimed Ghanaian recording artist Kofi Kinata, who will headline the evening concert presented by PassportPay. Known for his lyrical storytelling, socially conscious music, and chart-topping hits, Kofi Kinata is expected to draw fans from across the Midwest and beyond for what organizers anticipate will be one of the festival's most memorable performances.

Visitors can expect a full day of authentic Ghanaian cuisine from some of Chicagoland's most popular restaurants, cultural exhibits, artisan vendors, African fashion and handcrafted goods, live entertainment, educational displays, and activities for all ages. One of the festival's signature traditions, the colorful Parade of Chiefs and Queen Mothers, will once again showcase representatives from Ghana's 16 regions and numerous traditional kingdoms, offering attendees a rare opportunity to experience centuries-old customs and royal pageantry.

Before the festival begins, the Ghana National Council will make history by hosting Chicago's inaugural Ghana Flag-Raising Ceremony on July 1 at Daley Plaza in observance of Ghana Republic Day. The ceremony will officially launch the GhanaFest® season while celebrating Ghana's independence, democratic progress, and the lasting contributions of Chicago's Ghanaian community.

Today, GhanaFest® attracts more than 6,000 attendees annually and has grown from a neighborhood gathering in Jackson Park into one of the largest Ghanaian cultural celebrations in the United States, inspiring similar festivals in cities across the country and around the world.
