Open Auditions for Death by Design Play at South Suburban College's Kindig Performing Arts Center
SOUTH HOLLAND, IL — The Kindig Performing Arts Center (PAC) at South Suburban College (SSC) invites community members to audition for its upcoming production of Death by Design, a witty and entertaining comedy-mystery by acclaimed playwright Rob Urbinati, directed by Heather Young.
Open auditions will be held on Wednesday, July 1, and Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the Kindig Performing Arts Center, located on the campus of South Suburban College, 15800 South State Street in South Holland.
Set in an English country manor in 1932, Death by Design cleverly combines the sophisticated humor of Noël Coward with the suspenseful intrigue of Agatha Christie. The story follows playwright Edward Bennett and his actress wife, Sorel, who retreat to the countryside after a disastrous opening night in London. Their quiet escape is quickly interrupted by a series of unexpected guests, each harboring secrets of their own. When murder strikes, it falls to Bridgit, the spirited Irish maid with an unusual fascination for homicide, to uncover the culprit.
The production is seeking four women and four men for principal roles. Auditions are open to all individuals 18 years of age and older, regardless of previous acting experience.
Prospective cast members should note the following:
• No prepared monologue or prior experience is required.
• Auditionees will read short scenes from the script with fellow actors.
• Participants should bring their calendars and be prepared to list any rehearsal conflicts.
• Rehearsals begin July 6, 2026, and will generally take place on weekday evenings.
• While not all cast members will be required at every rehearsal, attendance at all dress rehearsals and performances is mandatory.
Performance dates are scheduled for:
• September 18, 2026
• September 19, 2026
• September 25, 2026
• September 26, 2026
In addition to performers, the production team is seeking volunteers interested in supporting the show behind the scenes through set painting, lighting, ushering, and other technical and production roles.
