CALUMET CITY'S ANNUAL JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION UNITES HUNDREDS IN A POWERFUL TRIBUTE TO FREEDOM, CULTURE, AND COMMUNITY

 

MAYOR THADDEUS JONES LEADS CALUMET CITY'S ANNUAL JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION HONORING HISTORY, CULTURE, AND PROGRESS

 

(Calumet City, IL) The City of Calumet City proudly welcomed hundreds of residents, families, community leaders, and visitors to its Annual Juneteenth Celebration, bringing the community together for an unforgettable day dedicated to honoring freedom, celebrating Black culture, and reflecting on the enduring legacy of resilience that continues to shape generations.


Hosted by Mayor Thaddeus Jones and the City of Calumet City, the annual celebration served as a meaningful reminder of Juneteenth's historic significance while highlighting the City's ongoing commitment to unity, education, and community engagement. Throughout the event, attendees enjoyed an atmosphere filled with live entertainment, cultural performances, delicious food, local vendors, family-friendly activities, and opportunities to connect with neighbors in celebration of one of America's most significant historical milestones.


“Juneteenth is far more than a celebration of history. It is a celebration of perseverance, progress, and the strength of people whose contributions have helped shape our nation. As we gather together each year, we honor those who fought for freedom and reaffirm our commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive Calumet City where every resident has the opportunity to thrive,” said Mayor Thaddeus Jones.


The success of this year's event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of city leadership, staff, volunteers, community organizations, sponsors, and elected officials who worked tirelessly to create an experience that was both educational and celebratory. The event reflected Calumet City's continued investment in creating meaningful opportunities that bring residents together while recognizing the importance of preserving history and strengthening community bonds.


From inspiring performances and cultural showcases to opportunities for fellowship among families and neighbors, the Annual Juneteenth Celebration once again demonstrated the strength and diversity that define the Calumet City community.


The City of Calumet City extends its sincere appreciation to every resident, volunteer, Alderman Ramonde Williams, Alderwoman Shalisa Harvey, and community partners who helped make this year's Annual Juneteenth Celebration a tremendous success. Together, the community demonstrated that when people come together in remembrance, celebration, and service, they continue to build a brighter future for generations to come.
