FIRST MINORITY-OWNED DOOR SUPPLIER IN CHICAGO LAUNCHES AT HIRE360 TRAINING CENTER

HIRE360 Expansion Positions PGC Doors for Its Next Phase of Growth

CHICAGO, IL — Powell Group Corporation (PGC), a family-owned construction company founded in 2019, has officially opened PGC Doors, the first and only minority-certified doors, frames and hardware supplier in Chicago. PGC Doors operates out of a 4,000-square-foot warehouse at HIRE360’s Training and Business Development Center in Bronzeville, which will serve as the central hub for the company’s door and doorframe supply across Chicagoland. The space was provided rent-free by HIRE360 for one year, enabling the company to scale its operations and enter manufacturing.

“Marceda and I have always believed in building something that would last beyond us,” said Tyrone E. Powell, co-founder of Powell Group Corporation, who founded the company alongside his wife, Marceda Powell. “Opening PGC Doors allows us to compete in a space where Black-owned businesses have historically been shut out, creating stability, good-paying jobs, and a legacy that our children and future generations can continue to grow.”

HIRE360, an industry-led nonprofit that helps create opportunities in the construction industry for both suppliers and workers, has worked with PGC since the company first opened. The organization views the rent-free space as an investment in the company and community.

“PGC Doors is exactly the type of business growth we aim to support at HIRE360,” said Deborah Whitaker, Director of Business Development and Diverse Supply Chain at HIRE360. “I’ve seen Tyrone and Marceda take this company from concept to execution. Their growth reflects years of dedication and hard work, and we’re proud to support them in creating jobs and strengthening Chicago’s construction ecosystem.”

PGC began as a small, family-run construction business and has since grown into a $3 million-revenue company delivering major projects throughout Chicago. The firm was founded by Tyrone, a veteran and carpenter by trade, and his wife Marceda Powell.

Originally launched as Powell Painting and Decorating in honor of Tyrone’s grandfather, who ran a successful painting business for more than 50 years, the company later rebranded as Powell Group Corporation to reflect its ability to offer broader construction services. Today, the business is operated by the Powell family and a team that includes former U.S. service members Randall Diggins Jr. and Roy (DeMonta) Beatty, who joined through the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program.

At the grand opening, Related Midwest, a longtime advocate of Tyrone Powell and his work, marked the milestone by presenting PGC Doors with a contract for door orders, helping support the company’s next phase of growth.

“Tyrone has consistently demonstrated the skill, integrity and leadership it takes to succeed at scale,” said Don Biernacki, Executive Vice President of Construction at Related Midwest. “This partnership reflects our confidence in PGC Doors and our commitment to supporting minority-owned businesses that are building lasting impact in Chicago.”

With support from HIRE360 and access to dedicated space, the Powells were able to expand from renovation work into manufacturing—an opportunity that remains difficult to access for many small businesses due to high barriers to entry in the construction supply industry.
