Village Honors 7-year-old Mia Bates who Saved her Unconscious Father’s Life by Dialing 911 and Speaking with Dispatchers until Paramedics Arrived.
(Lynwood, Illinois)- Jada D. Curry- Mayor of Lynwood , Illinois- was joined by the Village Clerk and the full Village Board of Trustees in a Day of Service to honor the incredible and visionary champion, the late Dr .Martin Luther King Jr.
Mayor Curry and the Village Board created an atmosphere of volunteering themselves to children, seniors and all residents who look to Dr. King’s undying spirit of giving back and an expression of love for his fellow man. The day included free haircuts for kids, an enormous volume of free school supplies, voter registration, and full health screenings including mental care. Pastor Shawn Peter Dalcour of the New Jerusalem Kingdom Ministries of South Holland, Illinois gave the keynote address. The national anthem was performed by popular gospel recording artist and wife of Lynwood Trustee Bryan Hurt, Pastor Bridgette Hurt.
Mayor Curry and the Village Bard also recognized the MLK-Like heroics of 7-year-old Mia Bates who discovered her father unconscious and had the remarkable MLK-Type courage to dial 911 and speak intelligently to dispatchers while waiting for paramedics to arrive to save her dad’s life.
“There could be no better way of celebrating Dr. King’s legacy than recognizing the heroic actions of Mia’s determination to save her father’s life. We are all so honored, grateful, and blessed for her seven-year-old life and her bravery that captures the real purpose in why we celebrate and use this occasion as a day of service.” says Mayor Curry.
The mayor and full Village Board will honor Mia Bates during the upcoming Village Board Meeting.
The Lynwood Day of service was well attended by hundreds of residents, Clery leaders, community leaders, and area elected officials. Leaders wasted no time in rolling up their sleeves and servicing the great residents of Lynwood and beyond. Residents were impressed with the spirit of giving, love, and peace in which Dr. King expressed to people of all levels of society.
“It’s always fitting to see our local leaders so engaged with the needs and challenges of families during what we all know is a difficult time. But this is truly what Lynwood is all about. We are a community of caring people who have sincere love for our neighbors and family. I want to applaud the mayor and the full village board for this day of love and giving back.” says long time Lynwood resident Chyna Herring.
Mayor Curry concludes. “Dr. King’s leadership inspired people to overcome their differences and serve one another. The act of giving back advances us closer to the fulfillment of his dream.
