Juliana Stratton Fails to Gain Steam While Kelly Rises With Black Voters
The Illinois Democratic primary to replace retiring U.S. Senator Dick Durbin is well underway, with under a month to go until voters begin to cast their ballots. Senator Durbin has served our state in the U.S. Senate for nearly thirty years, underscoring the once-in-a-generation nature of this contested primary.
Emerson College just yesterday released the first public poll in this race, and one trend is clear: Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton is failing to gain steam. Not only is she polling below 10% – she is losing Black voters. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, an Indian American, is leading that demographic, followed closely by Rep. Robin Kelly. In distant third – Juliana Stratton.

Illinois voters begin voting on February 5th – the time for Stratton to get moving was yesterday. Her opponents, Kelly and Krishnamoorthi, are leading the charge to impeach Kristi Noem and rolling out endorsements from 100 Black faith leaders, respectively.
