Congressional Candidate, Donna Miller, Issues Statement on
State of the Union Address
Listening to President Donald Trump's State of the Union Address tonight, I'm reminded of a number of sayings, "There's a sucker born every minute" and "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bull."
His address was one lie after another. Clearly, President Trump believes Americans are suckers. He tells us Americans are going to save on health care all the while his One Big, Brutal Bill cuts $880 billion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act. He tells Americans his immigration policy is making our streets safer all the while federal enforcement agents are brutalizing, killing and disappearing American citizens. He tells us the Biden Administration gave us the highest inflation in history all the while prices remain the same, unemployment is increasing and job growth is flat. Trump tells us he's eliminated tax on tips, tax on overtime and tax on Social Security all the while Americans are paying thousands of dollars in tariffs on everyday items.
Trump said, "Democrats are destroying our country, but we stopped it in the nick of time." As Democrats we have to stop him in the nick of time. As we prepare to celebrate America's 250th anniversary, I'm reminded of the famous Benjamin Franklin quote following the Constitutional Convention in 1787. When asked if the convention created a republic or a monarchy, Franklin replied, "A republic, if you can keep it."
This midterm, it's imperative that Democrats take back Congress. If voters sit on the sidelines as they did in 2024, we won't have anything to celebrate and we won't have a democracy.
