Chicago mother Carmen Day memorializes her son Jelani Day 6 years after going missing and found dead in the Illinois River. The Jelani Day Foundation will host its 4th Annual Gala


The gala will feature keynote speaker Bill Crump at The Red Door in Broadview on Saturday, August 22

 

CHICAGO - Carmen Day, mother of Jelani Day, started The Jelani Day Foundation after the unsolved death of her son Jelani in 2021. Jelani, who was a 25 year old graduate student at Illinois State University, went missing on August 24, 2021 and was found dead in the Illinois River on. His murder has not been solved.

 

Since his death, Carmen Day launched a foundation to support her son and their family. The Jelani Day Foundation (JDF) is at the forefront of the fight for change and equity to ensure families of color have the help and momentum needed during the search for their missing loved ones.

 

“I just don’t want people to forget my son,” said Carmen Day. “So each year, I am going to celebrate him with the people who loved him.”
