GEORGE DANIELS OF GEORGE’S MUSIC ROOM TO RECEIVE THE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Jada M. Curry- Mayor of Lynwood, Illinois- and the Lynwood Village Board Lynwood are thrilled to announce that it will serve as municipal host of an all Cook County Celebration and salute to Chicago’ Legendary George Daniels as part of the return of its highly anticipated Lynwood Fest, taking place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Southland Center, located at 10 Southland Drive, Lynwood, IL 60411.
Affectionately known as “Uncle George” Mr. Daniels is a living legend who is credited with the upward mobility of the Chicagoland black music scene and is considered Chicago’s Chief Music Historian and Icon who has witnessed many of the most impactful eras in music history here in the Chicagoland area and beyond.
The celebration has been created to honor a Black business owner whose career has touched the lives of many around the world for over six decades. The world-renowned Chicago legend helped to launch and sustain many of today’s iconic artists and his presence on the West Side of Chicago served as inspiration for those in that community. Musicians from all over the world have traveled to George’s Music Room as fans lined up for blocks to get up close and personal with many of their favorite artists.
Mayor Curry will be joined by some of George’s favorite Chicago area artists as they will serenade him by performing some of his personal favorite songs. In addition, Uncle George will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his global contributions to the music industry and for his undying love for Chicago.
This year’s Lynwood Music festival is an exciting lineup of live music, local vendors, mouth-watering food trucks, free haircuts for children, and a spectacular fireworks finale that will light up the night sky. Lynwood Fest is a cherished tradition that brings together families, friends, and neighbors from across the Southland region to celebrate the spirit of community and enjoy a summer day filled with fun, flavor, and festivities.
The summer music festival is an excellent highlight for end-of-summer fun for area students and residents. Lynwood Fest has become a significant highlight for the entire family! This adopted family tradition provides fun, safety, and memorable fellowship with neighbors.

Lynwood Fest is free and open to the public. Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the outdoor festivities comfortably. Early arrival is recommended for best seating and parking availability.
