WVON PRESENTS THE CHICAGO READ-IN: A CREATIVE KID’S SHOWCASE FEATURING HOMER BRYANT’S HIPLET BALLET TROUPE AND BROADWAY’S A.J. RHODES FROM THE LION KING
[Chicago, IL] — WVON announced today that it will host 1,000 children and their parents at The Chicago Read In on Saturday April 25th at the Harold Washington Cultural Center, 4701 South King Drive at 12 noon. The Chicago Read In is a creative kid’s showcase highlighting written, visual, and oral prose in the form of books, poetry, dance and storytelling. Headlining thisyear’s event is Homer Bryant’s Hiplet Ballet Troupe and Chicago’s own A.J. Rhodes, fresh off his Broadway run as Simba in the Lion King.
The Chicago Read-in is cultural exploratory learning for young people ages 6-16. The project is created and produced by local author and filmmaker Jil Ross, creator of the Shenanigan Book Series. “This event introduces literacy in different facets—from music to dance to art to stimulate young minds and connect them to their culture in a way that teaches history while tapping their creative impulses,” says Ross.
The Chicago Read-In is part of VONtv’s upcoming series Turn The Page, an episodic series featuring digital storytelling by local influencers as they read children’s books that will be available On-Demand. VONtv is WVON’s Digital streaming network available on Roku, Amazon Fire, Apple TV+, WVON’s App and at von.tv.
