THE JAZZ INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO LAUNCHES THE CHICAGO JAZZ CLUB EXPERIENCE
A Citywide Celebration for International Jazz Day
CHICAGO – In celebration of International Jazz Day (IJD), the Jazz Institute of Chicago invites audiences to explore the city’s vibrant jazz scene in a new and immersive way with the Chicago Jazz Club Experience (CJCE), a one-night, citywide event connecting live music, neighborhood jazz clubs, and community.
Taking place on Monday, April 27, 2026, the program offers jazz lovers and curious newcomers alike an opportunity to explore Chicago’s rich jazz culture across multiple neighborhoods. Guests can choose from two routes, including the Miles Davis South Side Route and the Melba Liston Loop Route, visiting a curated selection of jazz clubs throughout the evening.
Designed to remove barriers to accessing live jazz, the CJCE makes participation easy, welcoming, and social. Attendees may opt for a Freestyle Pass, DIY experience, navigating their chosen route independently, or select the Front of the House, luxury transportation experience, which offers guided transportation between venues.
For more than five decades, the Jazz Institute of Chicago has nurtured and promoted jazz in all its forms while strengthening the city’s vibrant jazz community. The CJCE continues that work by connecting audiences directly to the venues, musicians, and neighborhoods that keep Chicago’s jazz tradition alive.
At its core, the event reflects the Jazz Institute of Chicago’s commitment to supporting Chicago musicians, building community around live performance, and fostering a thriving jazz ecosystem across the city.
“This celebration is about inviting people into Chicago’s jazz culture in a way that feels open, celebratory, and fun,” said Heather Ireland Robinson, Executive Director of the Jazz Institute of Chicago. “We want audiences to feel confident exploring jazz clubs across the city, and the Jazz Institute of Chicago is proud to be your trusted guide and connector within the jazz community.”
In addition to live performances across participating venues, the evening will feature special touches designed to deepen audience engagement, including route guides, on-site hosts, and curated moments of connection throughout the city. Additional details, including participating clubs, artists, and route specifics, will be announced in the coming days.
“The CJCE highlights the living, breathing jazz scene that exists across Chicago’s neighborhoods,” said Marla Forbes, member of the Board of Directors at the Jazz Institute of Chicago at the Jazz Institute of Chicago. “It’s an opportunity to immerse into the jazz genre, not just as a performance, but as a shared cultural moment that connects communities, while supporting the musicians and venues that sustain the music year-round.”
Ticketing options include a $30 Freestyle Pass experience and a $50 Front-of-the-House luxury transportation experience, offering different ways to participate while keeping the event affordable and accessible. Proceeds support the Jazz Institute of Chicago and its mission-driven programs, many of which are offered free to the public through the organization’s education, performance, and community initiatives.
As part of the global celebration of International Jazz Day, this initiative underscores Chicago’s role as a vital center of jazz history and innovation and invites audiences to take part in its present and future.
As Chicago celebrates its selection as the 2026 International Jazz Day Global Host City, this initiative underscores the city’s storied jazz history and the pivotal role of the Jazz Institute of Chicago in securing this prestigious global honor.
