Family Focus to Host 3rd Annual Youth Explosion Celebrating Youth Voice, Creativity, and Leadership

 Family Focus is proud to present its 3rd Annual Youth Explosion, April 11th at 2250 S. 49th St. Cicero, IL,  a vibrant celebration of youth voice, talent, creativity, and leadership that brings together young people from across Chicago to showcase their growth, gifts, and potential.

More than just an event, Youth Explosion reflects what becomes possible when young people are given safe spaces, meaningful support, and opportunities to thrive. Students from the South and West sides of Chicago will come together to share what they have been learning, creating, and building through Family Focus youth development programs and school partnerships.

The event will feature youth performances, STEM projects, art, entrepreneurship, and other creative expressions that highlight the brilliance and potential of young people in a joyful, community-centered environment.

Family Focus’ youth development programs are designed to support children and teens ages 6 to 18 through evidence-based out-of-school time programming that includes homework help, STEM, visual and performing arts, sports, cultural activities, and social-emotional support. This work is grounded in the belief that children thrive when families and communities thrive.

In FY2025, Family Focus served more than 19,600 people, representing nearly 6,900 families across Chicago and Northeast Illinois. The organization also supported more than 7,500 parents and caregivers with stability and healing services.

The impact of Family Focus’ youth programming is both measurable and meaningful. Family Focus currently serves students from 15 schools across Chicagoland and provided 5,257 hours of after-school programming in FY2025. Among participants:

  • 94% of parents reported improvements in their child’s social-emotional well-being
  • 82% of after-school participants experienced academic improvement
  • 70% of students increased their attendance rate

These outcomes reflect the role Family Focus programs play in helping young people build confidence, stay engaged in school, and strengthen the skills they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.

Youth Explosion also serves as a reminder of why youth development and after-school programs matter now more than ever. In communities navigating violence, instability, and limited resources, safe spaces for youth are not optional — they are essential. Programs like these help foster belonging, support healthy development, and expand what young people believe is possible for themselves.
