The Village of Hazel Crest recently hosted a Women’s Day Celebration to commemorate March as Women’s History Month. Dr. Nakita Nicci Cloud, CMC, served as host for the event, which featured Dr. Dorothy Jean Tillman III and Dr. RaShonda Jones, DPM.
Dr. Tillman III earned her doctorate degree at 17 years old and is the Founder and CEO of the Dorothy Jeanius STEAM Leadership Institute. Jones is a Podiatrist and the owner of Foot Works Podiatry in Olympia Fields, Ill. Cloud is a Publicist and owner of the High Society Public Relations Agency, as well as a Certified Integrative Functional Medicine Practitioner and owner of the Cloud Med Anti-Aging and Regenerative Institute in the city’s Beverly community. Cloud said that when she saw the lineup for the event, she wanted to be a part of it.
She also said that it is a historic moment to celebrate women in the Village, because for the first time, the Village of Hazel Crest has a woman as its Village President, Sandra Alexander, who was sworn in on April 22, 2025.
“I love what the Village of Hazel Crest is doing and the movement that they’re going in,” she said. She said with Anderson, Jones and Tillman there, it wasn’t an event that she would say no to participating in.
Cloud said the theme of the Women’s Day Celebration was sisterhood and the message of the event was to be great by any means and to do whatever is necessary to be positive and help other women. She said that during the event, women exchanged contact information and used the opportunity to get to know each other and network.
Cloud said that it was inspiring for women to see the representation of other Black women doing amazing, and it is inspiring for young girls to see Tillman and all that she has accomplished as a teenager.
She said that for young girls seeing Tillman, it probably inspired them to go harder to accomplish their dreams. Tillman has a book that is set to come out, and during the Women’s Day Celebration people took the opportunity to pre-order it as a way to support her.
In addition to women being able to network and support, there was also a perfume making experience. The attendees learned about notes, aromas and were able to take home their own fragrance. Cloud said it was a packed event and every seat was filled. She said it was great to see Black women and women of color come together for a positive event.
“Sometimes, especially women of color, there is a stigma that we can’t work together, that we’re always competing and all the negative things,” she said. She added that with this event, it was an opportunity for people to see that Black women and women of color can collaborate with one another. “There were three doctors on the panel and everybody promoted everyone else.”
