PARATRANSIT TRANSFER FACILITY EQUIPPED WITH MODERN INDOOR WAITING AREA, REAL-TIME TRAVEL SIGNAGE, A VENTRA MACHINE AND RESTROOMS

(Calumet City, IL) Thaddeus Jones- Mayor of Calumet City and Illinois State Representative of the 29th District- was joined by Pace Chairman Rick Kwasneski; Pace Executive Director Melinda Metzger, various members of the Calumet City City Council, and Calumet City residents, in a groundbreaking celebration of an all-new Pace Paratransit Facility in Calumet City. The historic event took place on Tuesday, October 21st at the construction site located at 1370 Ring Road in Calumet City, Illinois.

The multi-million-dollar transit infrastructure investment is funded through Rebuild Illinois. The facility will be the region’s second Paratransit Transfer Facility with a modern indoor waiting area, real-time travel signage, a Ventra machine, and restrooms. The site should be fully constructed within a year.

“I am grateful to Pace for choosing Calumet City to house this beautiful facility that will benefit  the residents of Calumet City and beyond. I am most impressed with the planning and thought process around the matter concerning enhanced accessibility. The facility provides a safe and comfortable transfer point for riders with disabilities, centralizing connections and improving amenities.” says Mayor Jones.

Calumet City has enjoyed tremendous success in the creation of new businesses all while sustaining the current business population. With the addition of the Pace Transfer Facility, residents throughout the southland now have a safe and reliable option with Pace Transit.

Cook County Commissioner Dr. Kisha McCskill adds, “Kudos to Mayor Jones and our friends at PACE for choosing this location for the Paratransit facility. Our seniors combined with the elderly population have often been ignored as it relates to the planning and development of transportation facilities. But Mayor Jones was steadfast in his relentless fight for the disenfranchised within Calumet City and the southland. It’s a great day for the people of southern Cook County.

Other benefits of the Paratransit facility include:

Enhanced Accessibility: The facility provides a safe and comfortable transfer point for riders with disabilities, centralizing connections and improving amenities.

Improved Amenities: The facility offers modern amenities such as a waiting area, real-time travel signage, and EV charging stations, enhancing the overall passenger experience.

Centralized Connections: The facility serves as a key hub for bus and paratransit connections, providing hundreds of daily boardings and facilitating seamless travel for riders.

Support for Vulnerable Populations: The facility is designed to support vulnerable populations, including those with disabilities, ensuring they can participate in their communities and attend events.

Mayor Jones concludes, “The biggest winner with this project is our most vulnerable population of residents. The amenities of the facility contribute to a more inclusive and accessible transportation system, allowing individuals with disabilities to maintain their independence and engage fully with their communities.”
