Donna Miller Files Petitions for 2nd Congressional District Seat
"It feels great!" That is the response Donna Miller expressed after filing petitions for her congressional bid in Springfield. The Cook County Commissioner is running for the 2nd Congressional District seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly, who is seeking to represent Illinois in the U.S. Senate.
The 6th District commissioner turned in more than 3,500 signatures from Chicago, south suburban Cook County, Kankakee, Danville and Will County. This is Miller's first run for Congress. Miller's priorities are health care, the economy, education and gun violence.
The former health care consultant has a long history working on maternal health and morbidity issues. She secured $1 million for the recently launched Cook County Health Doula Program.
She also passed national legislation to support doula funding and increased funding for uterine fibroid education, research and treatment through the National Association of Counties. Miller has served as board chair for Planned Parenthood of Illinois and Planned Parenthood of Illinois Action Committee.
Currently, Miller serves as Chair of Asset Management, Contract Compliance and
Veterans Committees, Vice Chair of Workforce, Housing & Community Development
Committee and Chair of the Forest Preserve District Capital Development & Ecological
Restoration and Contract Compliance Committees on the Cook County Board.
Miller lives in the south suburbs with her husband, former state Senator David Miller, and their two sons, but her parents have deep roots in Chicago that span more than 100 years.
