(Markham, IL) Dr. Kisha McCaskill - Cook County Commissioner of the 5th District- has coalesced a well-rounded support base of residents, elected officials, Clergy leaders, and business leaders as she is primed, energized, and prepared for the stretch run of her election to a full four-year term of office. This morning Commissioner McCaskill submitted nearly 1700 signatures as she officially filed her candidacy for election to a full four-year term of office.

Over the past ten months Commissioner McCaskill has performed record breaking achievements and has created a path of prosperity, stability, and growth for the 5th District of Cook County. She has delivered millions of dollars in grants and much needed resources to villages and cities throughout her district.

Dr. McCaskill recently convened a meeting amongst top medical professionals, clergy leaders, and businesspersons concerning the lack of a Trauma Unit in the southern suburbs of Cook County. Given the obvious gaps in critical healthcare, lives have been impacted on a daily basis. The lack of a trauma center in the southland is not only challenging to residents but has quickly become the type of healthcare crisis that can no longer be ignored.

As did her predecessor, current Cook County Clerk Monca Gordon, Commissioner McCaskill will introduce additional resolutions that call for studies and focus groups to validate the need for trauma care. In addition, the Commissioner has begun discussions with federal and state legislators further advocating the justification and necessary funding for the much-needed project.

On January 10th, 2025, Illinois State Senator and Thornton Township Committeeman Napoleon Harris III were joined by ten other Chicago and south suburban Democratic Committeemen as they met to select a person to occupy the 5th District Cook County Commissioner’s seat left vacant by the current Cook County Clerk Monica Gordon. The gathering took place at South Suburban College in South Holland, Illinois.

After hearing presentations from five candidates, the group decided overwhelmingly to appoint well-known democratic organizer, former school teacher, and Harvey Park District Executive Director Dr. Kisha E. McCaskill as the new Cook County Commissioner of the 5th District. Commissioner McCaskill is currently serving out the remaining term of the now former Commissioner Monica Gordon.

Commissioner McCaskill is supported by a wide range of Elected officials, Clergypersons, Businesspersons, and civic leaders throughout the district and beyond. Some of which include but are not limited to the following:

Thornton Township Committeeman and Illinois State Senator Napoleon Harris

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle

Illinois House Speaker Emanuel Chris Welch

Illinois State Representative Debbie Meyers-Martin

Illinois State Representative Justin Slaughter

Calumet Township Committeeman Bob Rita

9th Ward Committeeman and Alderman Anthony Beale

21st Ward Committeeman Howard Brookins Jr

21st Ward Alderman Ronnie Mosley

Rich Township Committeeman Calvin Jordan

10th Ward Committeeman and Alderman Peter Chico

Bremen Township Committeeman Vernard Alsberry

Former 5th District Cook County Commissioner Deborah Sims

Apostle Carl White Jr

Pastor William Fleshman

Bishop Larry D. Trotter

In addition, over 95% of the Mayors and Village Presidents throughout the 5th District have endorsed Commissioner McCaskill’s candidacy as well.

‘We stand firmly with Commissioner McCaskill in her quest for election. She has demonstrated enormous work ethic, resilience, and motivation to not only represent the residents of the district in a spirit of excellence but to also continue in her success in the delivery of goods and services to the residents of the 5th District of Cook County.” says Illinois State Senator and Assistant Majority Leader Napoleon Harris.

Apostle Carl H. White of the Victory Christian Assembly International adds, “Dr. McCaskill has hit the ground running in just 10 short months as Commissioner of our district. She embodies the character, passion, and dedication to healthcare that has really impressed my fellow clergyman throughout the district. She has been steadfast in her advocacy and quest to deliver a trauma unit to the southland. The Southland Ministerial Health Network will fight with her every step of the way. It is with excitement and vigor that I fully endorse her candidacy.”

Commissioner McCaskill holds a PhD in Public Administration and Organizational Leadership. In addition, she holds a master’s degree in public service administration as well as a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Sociology from Western Illinois University. She is a former adjunct professor and Executive Director of the Harvey Park District.

McCaskill concludes, “I pledge myself to the residents of the 5th district. I understand the numerous challenges that people are currently battling. Moreover, I understand the positive impact that the government of Cook County has on the lives of residents. President Preckwinkle and I enjoy a wonderful working relationship and she has been nothing short of amazing in assisting me with delivering much needed dollars and resources to my district. I am firm in my commitment to continue to reform and enhance the upward mobility of public health and public safety throughout the 5th District of Cook County.”
