(Lynwood, IL) Jada D. Curry- Mayor of Lynwood, Illinois- has now officially been selected as President of the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association as well as the Southland Regional Mayoral Black Caucus. With both appointments, Mayor Curry is now the first African American female to lead both groups simultaneously.
In April of 2025 Mayor Curry was re-elected to a second term of office by the voters of Lynwood. Mayor Curry, first elected in 2021, began her second term by reaffirming her dedication to the Village of Lynwood and outlining her vision for continued progress. In her remarks, she reflected on the accomplishments of her administration and the bright future ahead.
“It has been an honor to serve the people of Lynwood, and I am both humbled and energized by the trust they have placed in me,” said Mayor Curry. “Together, we’ve laid a strong foundation, and I look forward to building on that momentum. The best is yet to come for
Lynwood.”
It is apparent that regional and other municipal leaders from afar have closely observed the tremendous success that Mayor Curry has enjoyed. The South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association (SSMMA) is an intergovernmental agency providing technical assistance and joint services to municipal members in Cook and Will Counties. The 45-member group overwhelmingly chose Mayor Curry to lead the historic organization that works cooperatively on transportation, legislation, land use, economic development, recycling, purchasing, stormwater and open space planning, infrastructure, human resources, public safety, and housing issues.
“Mayor Curry has demonstrated a spirit of excellence in her remarkable achievements within the Village of Lynwood. Choosing her as the President SSMMA was a great decision for our organization. She has hit the ground running and has been nothing short of amazing in her leadership and commitment to enhancing the upward mobility of the southland.” says Richton Park Mayor Rick Reinbold.
Through collaboration and leadership, Southland Regional Mayoral Black Caucus works to ensure policy development, resource accessibility, and community engagement remain at the forefront of progress—uplifting and strengthening our municipalities for generations to come. Since first being elected as Mayor of Lynwood in 2021, Mayor Curry has been an immensely proud and active member of the Southland Regional Mayoral Black Caucus. Her unwavering support and advocacy of the issues that are most prevalent to its members has led the 17 mayoral group to appoint Mayor Curry as its President. She had formerly served as the Vice President.
Calumet City Mayor Thaddeus Jones adds, “Jada Curry is clearly a rising star in the Democratic Party here in Illinois. Her work ethic is unmatched and her commitment to attracting resources and funding to the southland has been well noted. She has a keen sense of what it takes to coalesce leaders throughout the region for common goals and objectives.”
Mayor Jada D. Curry is a 22-year resident of the Village of Lynwood with a history of public service to the community. Prior to becoming mayor, she served as a Trustee for the Village of Lynwood, and as a member of Board of Education for Sunnybrook School District 171 including serving as Board President.
Mayor Curry, along with an outstanding Village Board, has received accolades throughout Cook County for their commitment to attracting economic development to Lynwood. The thriving community now has a small grocery store, Dunkin Donuts, Dollar General, and ghost kitchen/restaurant incubator space just to name a few. Mayor Curry and the Board of Trustees are thrilled to welcome three new major developments that are all set to break ground in Spring of 2026 which includes a 165-acre commercial development and a new fueling station that will include two restaurants as well as a mini mart. These businesses will continue to attract residents throughout Cook County and Northwest Indiana, 2026 is poised to be a breakout year under her leadership.
Focusing on Public Safety is a commitment that Mayor Curry and the Board of Trustees have prioritized. For the first time in the history of Lynwood the fire station now has 24-hour coverage and has added two ambulances to its fleet of emergency vehicles to service Lynwood residents.
Illinois Municipal League President and Matteson Mayor Sheila Chalmer-Currin concludes, “Jada Curry has brought a breath of fresh air to both SSMMA and the Black Caucus of mayors. I genuinely enjoy collaborating with the mayor and have always admired her resilience and strong work ethic. The future of the southland is brighter because of leaders such as Mayor Curry.”
