New Artificial Intelligence Tool Can Help Job Seekers

By Tia Carol Jones

A new tool from Google can assist people who are looking for job opportunities. Career Dream is a Google Artificial Intelligence (AI) experiment that was recently launched. It can help people create a professional story, explore new job possibilities and help with cover letters, resumes and prepare users for job interviews.

Andrea Willis, Communications Manager at Google, said the goal of Career Dreamer is to help people explore career possibilities, no matter what stage of their career they are in, whether they are a student, intern, professional or looking to get back in the workforce.

Willis said as Google has engaged with workforce programs throughout the years, the company noticed that even after people receive training, they still don’t know how to articulate their skillset or how to pitch themselves to employers. With Career Dreamer, users can input information about their career journey and share answers based on prompts.

From there, the tool will craft a career identity statement – a summary of all of the experiences that users can post on LinkedIn or put on their resume. After that, users are matched with resources that can help them continue in their career or it shares roles that apply to them, based on their skillset. Users also receive resources and information on how to use Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, to craft a resume or cover letter.

“There’s so many different ways that people can use the tool to move their career forward or explore different career pivots they might be interested in making,” Willis said.

While this is a new tool, Google tested Career Dreamer with a number of groups to make sure it was applicable to everyone. Those groups included the Mom Project and Hiring Our Heroes. People from those groups who used Career Dreamer said they felt more confident and empowered to go through their job search because it helped them articulate their skillset and how the skillsets they possessed can be applied to different roles.

Willis said that AI is meant to be assistive, not to replace a human or their skillset. It is meant to be a helper. Career Dreamer is able to help job seekers update their cover letter, respond to potential employers, update their resumes, based on the job they are applying for.

“AI can help you really be more efficient with all of those materials. It can draft a resume for you, based on a few prompts that you give it. It can draft cover letters for you for different companies, based on different prompts that you give it. Really, AI is meant to assist people on their career journey and the Career Dreamer tool is meant to speed up processes and to help you focus on how you can articulate your skillsets,” Willis said.

Google has launched different courses to help people learn how to prompt AI tools. It launched a Google AI essentials course and a prompting essentials course, both of which are available on grow.google.com. Those courses are meant to help users get the most out of Google’s AI tool, like Gemini. Willis said that Google is really excited about how Career Dreamer is going to help people along their career journey, as they explore possibilities or apply for a new job.
