THE MAN BEHIND THE MAYOR IN MATTESON
The Village of Matteson has experienced tremendous growth and success during the tenure of Mayor Sheila Chalmers-Currin. In fact, Mayor Chalmers-Currin has received accolades for her leadership from the likes of Governor Pritzker, various municipal organizations, regional leaders, and civic organizations just to name a few.
The Mayor and the Village Board have worked tirelessly to sustain businesses as well as bringing hundreds of new businesses into the thriving community. Mayor Chalmers-Currin and her administration have worked closely with the village board to ensure that Matteson has remained a community in which people love to visit and reside.
However, many have pointed to a gentleman that is affectionately known as the man behind the mayor. Adam Shorter has remained steadfast in his love, admiration, and focus for the village of Matteson. His incredible background in finance has propelled the village board in their ability to make sound fiscal decisions. Shorter holds the position of Chairman of the Finance Committee on the village board. His fellow trustees and other regional leaders have credited Trustee Shorter in assisting the mayor in the area of economic development as well as inserting strong discipline protocols on the Matteson budget.
Under Shorter’s leadership as Finance Chairman, the Village of Matteson General Fund has increased from $350,000 to a whopping $27 Million dollars. In addition, sales tax revenue increased from 8 million dollars to an impressive 10 million dollars. Shorter has also been a firm champion for small business growth, local investment, and economic development.
“We are all so proud of the outstanding work that Trustee Shorter has been able to accomplish. His efforts have not gone unnoticed. Mayor Chalmers-Currin has been consistent in her appreciation and acknowledgement of Adam Shorter’s contributions to the success of Matteson. He is a premier leader in the southland” says Illinois State Representative Debbie Meyers-Martin.
Shorter has also been a great supporter of Rich Township and the political infrastructure that has been developed. He is a constant participant in all the Township functions both governmentally and politically.
“Rich Township Supervisor and Democratic Committeeman Calvin Jordan adds, “ Adam Shorter has contributed much to the upward mobility of not only Matteson, but to Rich Township as well. Our collective successes are due in part to the generosity and the positive energy which Adam Shorter has provided. He has been awesome to work with.”
Cook County Commissioner Kisha McCaskill concludes, “ What impresses me about Trustee Shorter is his brilliant business acumen. Adam through his private business ventures has employed so many of our youth throughout the southland. Adam is truly a visionary leader and an even better person.”
Trustee Shorter has graciously accepted the mayor’s invitation to join her slate of candidates for Mayor, Village Clerk and Village Trustee. Shorter joins Village Clerk Yumeka Brown, fellow Trustee Carolyn Palmer, and candidate for Trustee Stacy Leak in completing this dynamic slate of candidates. The abovementioned candidates, including Mayor Calmers-Currin, are running for their respective offices in the upcoming April 1st, General election.
