Free weekly yoga classes for Cook County residents in south suburban Riverdale
CHICAGO - - Just in time for summer, Friends of the Forest Preserves (FOTFP) increases their commitment to help Cook County residents connect with nature, free health and wellness sessions featuring yoga, stretching and walking are being held weekly at two forest preserve locations in south suburban Riverdale. The free classes are held on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and run until September 24, 2025. Residents of all ages and skill levels are welcome.
“It is a wonderful way to slow down and connect with community members,” said Isabella Stocke, Field Organizer. “Building a community for people means they don’t just come out once, they come out over and over again.”
Locations:
Wellness Tuesdays at Kickapoo Woods
Entrance at Halsted, south of 144th St. Riverdale, IL 60827
Wellness Wednesdays at Whistler Woods
Entrance at 134th St., East of Halsted Ave. Riverdale, IL 60827
Schedule:
Stretch and Walks - 9:00 am – 10:00 am
2 mile walk. Walking pace with room for conversation & mindfulness. No registration required.
Yoga - 10:00 am – 11:00 am
All levels welcome. Registration is not required, but participants are asked to email in advance if their group is 5 or more. Yoga classes led by Community Health, Illinois Extension. Yoga mats are available, but people are welcome to bring their own, along with any other props to make themselves feel comfortable.
