EQUAL HOPE PRESENTS 3RD  ANNUAL “TEAL TALK” HEALTH & RESOURCE FAIR, JAN. 23

Nonprofit holds event as a part of January’s National Cervical Cancer Awareness Month.

CHICAGO (Jan. 16, 2025) – In honor of National Cervical Cancer Awareness Month in January, Equal Hope will present its 3rd Annual “Teal Talk” Health & Resource Fair, on Thursday, Jan. 23, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Humboldt Park Field House, 1440 N. Humboldt Blvd., Chicago 60647.

A Chicago-based, 501(c)(3) organization, Equal Hope is dedicated to saving lives by eliminating inequities in the treatment of breast, cervical and other cancers by connecting uninsured and underinsured patients to high-quality preventative care, screening, diagnostics, and treatment. The organization has partnered with the Humboldt Park Field House to bring healthcare education, resources, activities and food to the community. Teal is the color that represents cervical

cancer awareness.

“Our message is simple. Cervical cancer is almost 100 percent preventable,” said Equal Hope Chief Executive Officer Dr. Paris Thomas. “Our goal is to help women get vaccinated, screened and treated so we can eradicate cervical cancer,” she said.

Chicago’s cervical cancer incidence and mortality rates are considerably higher than the national average. Chicago’s cervical cancer incidence is 39 percent higher than the U.S. average and its mortality is 60 percent higher than the U.S. average. (Source NCI Data 2011 – 2015). Data also shows that cervical cancer is disproportionately higher in Black and Brown communities nationwide and

in Chicago.

World-renowned cervical cancer expert and Equal Hope Board of Directors member Dr. Nita Lee from University of Chicago Medicine will be the “Teal Talk” guest speaker. The Health & Resource Fair will include 25 vendors offering information on healthcare services, job opportunities, recidivism, and housing. More than 200 guests are expected to attend.

In 2024, Equal Hope's outreach efforts reached more than 100,000 in the Chicagoland area, more than twice as many as in 2023. Support included information sharing, rides to health screenings, scheduling appointments and establishing primary care for hundreds of women.
